When your kid begs for a pet and promises to do all the work caring for it, it’s time to seriously consider it. Don’t make the mistake of believing they will actually do all the work or insisting they do it all, because it’s unfair to the animal. But if they can do some, it’s good for their growth. And having each other for play and companionship makes them both just a little easier for you to take care of.

I had snails when I was a kid and we made the mistake of getting a species that was non-native to our area, so when we got bored of them it was a whole Thing to get rid of them. So from a former child snail owner, try to get some you can dump in the woods when they’re tired of them.
